FIND A WORD, ANY WORD
Ever wish you could use use your text files as a database, retrieving a
segment of text based on its containing a particular word or phrase? Well,
you can, and you can do it without re-keying any of your text or
modifying your text files in any way.
Using the same concept as a book index, AnyWord (tm) Indexer
cross-references your text, allowing speedy lookups with AnyWord Finder. In
fact, we can guarantee it will take you no more than 3 seconds to find any
word within 1 million bytes of text on a hard disk. (A little longer on
a floppy-based PC.)
AnyWord works with all ASCII or Wordstar files. Use it for
correspondence, reports, program source files in different languages,
notes, documentation, downloaded message files, legal papers, etc.
Besides simple word and phrase lookups, AnyWord can:
- Locate complex combinations of information. Words and phrases may
be joined with AND, OR, and NOT. Also, the results from previous
searches may be re-used as part of later searches.
- Copy chunks of text into new files. Have a lot of research notes that
you want to organize? AnyWord makes it easy to build new files
out of old ones -- and without changing any existing information.
- Rapidly browse through your files. From any point within any file, you can
page backwards, forwards, across files, to the beginning, to the end, etc.
AnyWord was formerly called "Total Recall". (Now we sell a different
kind of product called Total Recall.) AnyWord, under its previous name, has
been sold to lawyers, college professors, librarians, and others in different
professions and businesses. For instance, a writer in Connecticut has put
all of the Sherlock Holmes works on diskette (about 25 diskettes) and uses
our package to access it. In Arizona, a college professor is using a
specially modified version on a BBS, so callers can dial in to his database
of First Amendment legal cases and do quick accesses.
Two words of warning: Files can take a long time to index, so AnyWord
is best used on text that doesn't change very often. (By May, we should
have an update that fixes this by allowing partial indexing. We'll be
sending out a free update when it's ready.) The other warning is that the
limitation on the total size of your text files is 1 Megabyte. (This will
also be increased in the next update.)
At $49, AnyWord was probably the most cost-effective way of rapidly
retrieving text. But now we're making it even easier to try AnyWord --
we'll let you try it before you buy it. Just send us $5 to cover
duplication/handling/mailing costs, and we'll send you a full copy of
AnyWord. If, after you try AnyWord, you'd like to continue using it, just
send us an additional $35 -- which will automatically enroll you in our
Users Group.
